The Science of Success

The Science of Success
By Wallace D. Wattles

Date Review Posted:  June 21, 2013
Authors:  Wallace D. Wattles
Release Date:  2007  BUT WRITTEN IN 1910
Related Blog:   None

Rating:  *****  (A case could be made that I would only review the best of the best because if while reading a book it does not hold my interest, I would not finish it and therefore would not review it.)

Format:  This book is actually THREE books in ONE.  The Wattles writings were first published in 1910 and the first book The Science of Getting Rich was obviously the basis for the book and movie, The Secret.  This book contains three of Wattles best writings; The Science of Getting Rich; The Science of Getting Well; and The Science of Being Great.  All three are excellent reads.  I think, however, that the last of the three, The Science of Being Great might be best read first because it applies to developing one’s attitude.  Without the proper attitude none of the books will have much of an influence on the reader.

Reason For Reading THIS book: I read The Science of Getting Rich several years ago.  Actually read it several times and then purchased the book on CD so I could listen to it in my car.  It is that good!  I saw this book at Barnes & Nobles and bought several of them to give as gifts.  With the proper mindset while reading either one of these books, they have the power to really change your wealth, your health and your future but ONLY if you are paying attention to the contents.

Number Of Times I Have Read This Book:  Many, nave no idea just how many.

Brief Summary of Content:

THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH:  The first of the three.  It is all about thinking in as Wattles writes, a “Certain Way.”  If you read any of the three books you will hear that phrase over and over again, “Thinking in a Certain Way.”  I would hate to reduce the review of this book to just five words but really it is about “Thinking in a Certain Way.”

All three of the books have a spiritual tone to them (as compared to religious tone).  I say that because if someone had told me that the book was religious or even spiritual I may not have picked it up in the first place.  Don’t let that happen to you.
Wattles suggests that anyone, with the proper attitude (and that is why I recommend reading The Science of Being Great first) can become rich or wealthy to the degree the reader wants to be rich or wealthy.  And as stated, it all is reduced to “Thinking in a Certain Way.”

Wattles has reduced his writing to a “science.”  Wattles believes and I believe he has made his case in the book as a lawyer would in a courtroom that becoming rich truly is a science and as such, there is a proven way or path to becoming wealthy which he has defined in this book.

THE SCIENCE OF BEING WELL:  Like the first book, Wattles has reduced his writing to that of science meaning there is actually a science or law as to how to become and stay healthy and again it involves “Thinking in a Certain Way.”   The process involves thinking healthy and then believing your thinking will lead you to a healthy life.  But just thinking about either of these two books by itself won’t help you to achieve that which you seek.  You must also act but not to any great degree that you might think or believe it to be too great of an task to do.

As an example, Wattles discusses the difference between eating because you are hungry or eating because of a habit or appetite.  He discusses eating when you are hungry and when you read it you may be shocked at his recommendations which would require changing long-standing habits.  It would also require the cooperation of your immediate family if you intend to pursue the recommendations.

THE SCIENCE OF BEING GREAT!  Again, “Think in a Certain Way!”  I think this is actually the best of the three books or better said, a primer to accept the writings in the first two books.  Wattles has some startling suggestions on how to deal with others, especially those who you might at first think to be an enemy or someone opposed to your development.  He suggests that everyone, at this moment, is perfect and is developing or progressing to a greater perfection.  We are all on a path.  Some become stagnant on that path and fail to develop but even those folks are perfect for them at that moment.  The task is not to be judgmental of others at any time and instead work on yourself and your belief that you at this moment are already GREAT and getting better all the time.  This is definitely a book about attitude.  If you work on your attitude, you can become GREAT, WEALTHY and HEALTHY provided you “Think in a Certain Way!”

These three books WILL cause you to at least begin to “Think in a Certain Way”, it is up to you to continue it to reach the kind of goals you set for yourself.

The book in one word – FANTASTIC!

Who Should Read the Book?    Everyone!   I would strongly recommend purchasing a copy of this book for everyone in your immediate family.  Include a hand written note on the inside front cover to convey your belief in them and how the book WILL help them to better adapt to the world we live in while at the same time achieving the WEALTH, HEALTH and GREATNESS they desire and that you desire for them.

Final Test:  Would I read the book again?  ABSOLUTELY AND I WILL!
